Because I will be moving back to O’ahu, in the next couple of years, I have to begin re-homing most of my adults.  About every two weeks or so, I will highlight one adult chihuahua in order that he or she can be placed in a safe home and adopted by a loving family. My adults range in age from 6 to 3 years old and you can see all available adults by clicking on Tutu’s ‘Ohana link in the green border at the top of the page.

This is Maka Lea, a beautiful fawn with white and black markings, long coat female chihuahua. She was born in Pahala on the Big Island of Hawai’i on 11/03/05/06 which makes her 5 years old. She was the runt of 3 in the litter females and weighs between 3-4 pounds. She is small but tough and doesn’t let any other dog push her around. She is a very happy dog, strutting around with her tail held high and waving back and forth. MakaLea means twinkling eyes. She would do well in a family of adults where she gets to shine as the top dog as she enjoys being spoiled. If you are interested in MakaLea, contact me via tutustinytots@gmail.com with your questions and/or read “Details of Adoption” below.

Advantages of adopting an older dog:

  • Housebreaking: Older dogs are often house-trained. If not, they are at least able to learn quickly. Puppies, on the other hand, are too young to be able to physically “hold it” for very long. You have to take them outside every hour — often in the middle of the night — and you still must clean up puddles.
  • Training: Mature dogs frequently come pre-trained not to chew furniture or clothing. They also may know basic commands, such as “sit,” “stay” and “down.” “They know how to walk on a leash and a lot of the other basic things that puppies haven’t learned yet,” says Adam Goldfarb, director of the Pets at Risk program of the Humane Society of the United States.

  • Energy level: Adult dogs tend to be calmer. With puppies and adolescent dogs, energy level is more of an issue. Many adolescent and young adult dogs wind up in shelters because their families weren’t prepared for such a high-energy pet.

  • Socialization: Older dogs are apt to be more socialized, and therefore, they usually handle people, other pets, cars and noises better than puppies.

  • Temperament and size: With older dogs, you have a better idea of who they are, how they act and what they’ll look like. With purebred puppies, you can make an educated guess by observing the dog’s parents. With mixed breeds, however, you may not know the parents. In addition, paw size is an inexact measure of full-grown size.

  • Spaying or neutering: An adult dog has likely been fixed already, taking the responsibility off you.

Details of adoption:

  1. If you are interested in adopting an adult chihuahua, please contact me via email tutustinytots@gmail.com to let me know who you would like to have as a companion, any questions you may have and a little about yourself.

  1. If we mutually agree on your selection, an Agreement of Sale and $200 deposit will be required for the veterinarian services of spaying or neutering, teeth cleaning and a current examination/health record of your chihuahua.

  1. The total adoption fee is $495. It includes a dose of Advantage Multi, a coupon for 40# of Iams dry dog food, a new collar, a new toy, a new blanket or sweater, a brochure about helping an older dog adjust, and a lifetime of consulting services for your new companion. If circumstances change and you are no longer able to keep Peanut, she can be returned to me.

  1. If shipping is required, an additional $75 will be needed ($25 airline approved carrier and $50 for airfare).

cowboyadopted.jpgtessa-2-001.jpgThese two gorgeous puppies are going to live together in their new home.  Cowboy is white with a couple of tinted spots near his tail. He has a very loving personality and loves to give lots of kisses. Cowboy is outgoing but not aggressive. Like many of my chihuahuas, he only barks to alert and is not yappy or people shy.  CowBoy and his sister, Teesa, are going to spend their lives together on O’ahu.

sweetstuff12-13-11.jpg sweetstuffpeleke12-13-11.jpg sweetstuffside12-13-11.jpg MEET SWEET STUFF!

Born on 12/03/2010 to AKC Stormy and AKC Ke’oke’o is one little female named SWEET STUFF. She is likely to be around 5-6 pounds as an adult. She is definitely a rough and tumble chihuahua suitable for a family with children who would like to train her to fetch and do tricks. Sweet Stuff has a significant under-bite that makes her face look like a miniature bullddog. The under-bite doesn’t interfere with her in anyway but she probably should not be used for breeding so she is available without papers for $165.

livelovebarter.jpgBarter is the world’s oldest buying/selling tool.  In the simplest form, bartering is two individuals swapping items of equivalent value.  I really love the idea of bartering. In our current economy it seems so logical to be able to exchange goods and/or services.

We have a variety of Chihuahua puppies that we are looking to place. I would be willing to consider some bartering & trading. In these tough times, it’s important to be flexible in helping folks find a nice puppy. Contact me if you would like a nice quality Chihuahua pup.

Choose your puppy and then check out the list of goods/services under the “Discounts” page above to see if you have something you would like to trade for him or her.  Mahalo nui.  LIVE    LOVE    BARTER  - MADE IN HAWAI’I.
